  • The article discusses the validity of removing body parts for medical reasons and research that suggests these body parts are important to overall health. Topics include a 2017 study led by evolutionary biologist Heather Smith which suggests that the appendix plays an immunological and gastrointestinal role in overall health, a 2018 study which suggests that tonsils and adenoids play a developmental role in shaping the immune system, and a decline in hysterectomies.
