  • Resumen
    • The article discusses the neurological aspects of sleep. The authors note that all animals sleep, adding that some animals, such as dolphins, have unique adaptations to accommodate sleep. Topics include the authors' synaptic homeostasis hypothesis (SHY) which suggests sleep weakens connections among nerve cells, conventional wisdom regarding sleep's role in learning and memory formation, and the link between a weakening of synapses and the amount of energy the brain consumes.
