    Necessity, fashion or problem, the question is that in the last decade we have seen a worrying increase in the use of opioid analgesics, especially in pathologies without specific indication.

    And we say worrisome, not only because of the quantity but because of the negative consequences of an excessive use of this type of drugs, with more and more presentations and easier access, although with a medical prescription, when it is not bought in the market or on the internet.

    We can talk about a fashion imported in part from the USA. where the phenomenon has been several decades since the use of these drugs has been combined with the misuse of these drugs for the treatment of chronic pain, which has led to an increase in deaths due to overdoses and to patients who resort to this type of treatment even when they are not are indicated. In U.S.A. About one million people go to the emergency room due to improper use of drugs, almost 40% related to opioid analgesics.

    Consequence of this has been the increase of up to 300% of the demands of treatment for abuse of these drugs

    Necesidad, moda o problema, la cuestión es que en la última década hemos podido observar un incremento preocupante en la utilización de los analgésicos opioides, especialmente en patologías sin indicación específica.

    Y decimos preocupante, no solo por la cantidad si no por las consecuencias negativas que tiene un uso desmesurado de este tipo de fármacos, cada vez con más presentaciones y de más fácil acceso, eso sí, con receta médica, cuando no se compra en el mercado o en internet.

    Podemos hablar de una moda importada en parte de EE.UU. donde el fenómeno ya lleva varias décadas, al unirse el uso con el mal uso de estos fármacos para el tratamiento del dolor crónico, lo que ha dado lugar a un aumento de muertes por sobredosis y a pacientes que recurren a este tipo de tratamientos aun cuando no estén indicados. En EE.UU. alrededor de un millón de personas acuden a urgencias por uso inadecuado de fármacos, casi el 40% relacionado con analgésicos opioides. Consecuencia de ello ha sido el incremento de hasta un 300% de las demandas de tratamiento por abuso de estos fármacos
