Aerosol observations over a marine site

  • The Plymouth Marine Laboratory (PML) Remote Sensing Group (RSG) has operated a sun photometer in the south-west of England since 1997. A CIMEL sun photometer was operated at Rame Head as part of the AERONET network between 1997 - 1999, this was succeeded by a PREDE POM sun photometer which has operated from the roof of PML since May 2001. Using the Nakajima et al. (1996) code, retrievals of aerosol optical depth, size distribution, refractive index, phase function and single scattering albedo have been made. The timeseries data collected will be used for Earth Observation applications such as novel methods of atmospheric correction and the determination of aerosol properties from space. Key words: AERONET
