La guerra: Investigar para museizar

    El patrimonio creado por y para la guerra puede ser una buena herramienta para intentar explicar los conflictos bélicos que lo generaron. Esta idea está presente en el auge de nuevas iniciativas museísticas en torno a conjuntos poliorcéticos (murallas, fortificaciones, ciudadelas), pero, en contraste con esta situación, existe un tipo singular de patrimonio bélico que está desprotegido y olvidado: los campos de batalla.

    El presente artículo es un estudio de los problemas y las características de este tipo de patrimonio, tan importante y, a la vez, tan aparentemente intangible. Se muestra que para interpretar y musealizar correctamente un campo de batalla, es necesario estudiarlo en profundidad, aplicando en el proceso nuevos métodos arqueológicos y tecnológicos. Finalmente, se presenta el potencial de los campos de batalla como referente académico, didáctico y turístico en cuanto a patrimonio único e irrepetible.

    Heritage created by and for the war can be a good tool if we want to explain the conflict that generated it. This idea is present in the rising of new museum initiatives related to poliorcetic environments (walls, fortifications, citadels), but the situation is quite different if we focus on a singular type of war heritage, currently unprotected and forgotten: battlefields.

    This paper tries to analyze particular features of this type of heritage, so important and, at the same time, so intangible. It proofs that it’s necessary to make a deep study about the battlefield, applying new archaeological techniques in order to comprehend and show it to the public on a proper way.

    Finally, it shows the potential of the battlefield as academic and touristic item, as unique and unrepeatable heritage.
