The article deals with the theme of homelessness according to an archaeological per-spective. Intrinsically linked to the urban phenomenon the homeless presents implications which straight interrogate the system within which they are, time by time, interpretated. Using spacial, cultural and economical elements, the article considers the homeless as a favoured "urban sensor" offering an interpretation of the phenomenon, between policies of social inclusion and public order, in a broader perspective that questions the system that has generated it.
