  • The article discusses the social-psychological phenomenon of pluralistic ignorance, or incorrect beliefs about others' beliefs, how silence and inaction are perpetuated through social norms, and the role of communication and knowledge in dispelling pluralistic ignorance. Topics include cyclist Tyler Hamilton's book "The Secret Race," which discusses doping and the code of silence norm, college students' perceptions of peers and their attitudes toward binge drinking, and social pressure. Additional information is presented on racial segregation and totalitarian regimes.
