  • The author discusses extinctions that could occur in the 100 years following 2013, focusing on the impact of invasive species, diseases, and climate change on animal populations and providing recommendations that could avert extinctions. According to the author, coral reefs may disappear, poaching could result in the extinction of the Borneo rhino, and lions may only exist in zoos or wildlife preserves by 2113. A goal from the 1992 Convention on Biological Diversity to gain protection for a percentage of freshwater and ocean ecosystems is mentioned.
