    Habiendo sido conocido como un periodista de interesantes logros en el género de la crónica, Tomás Carrasquilla fundó con su primera novela la literatura de ficción en y sobre Medellín. Se propone en este artículo una mirada a dicha novela como obra narrativa que por su posible matrícula en escuelas literarias como el naturalismo y el costumbrismo se acerca bastante al cumplimiento de la función principal del periodismo: dar cuenta de la realidad, sea para mostrarla objetivamente o para interpretarla. Desde la novela de Carrasquilla se intenta seguir la ruta que lleva a fenómenos contemporáneos como la literatura urbana y el periodismo literario, y se muestran algunos ejemplos.

    Having been known as a journalist of remarkable achievements on the chronicle genre, Tomás Carrasquilla started out with his first novel what we know as fiction literature in and about Medellín. The purpose of this article is to look at the novel as a work of narrative that, for its possible link to literary schools like naturalism and costumbrismo, is pretty close to fulfill the main function of journalism; supporting reality, whether to show it objectively or to interpret it. Departing from Carrasquilla’s novel, we try to follow the path that leads to contemporary phenomena such as urban literature and literary journalism, and we give some examples.
