Resumen de The strangest bird.

R. Ewan Fordyce, Daniel T. Ksepka

  • The authors discusses the evolution of penguins, and cite their paleontological research into the fossil record of penguins to explain how and where they developed traits such as size, dense bones, and short legs. Fossil excavations in New Zealand, Waimanu penguins, and Galápagos penguins are discussed, as well as seabird evolution from the Cretaceous period, the geologic history of New Zealand, and research into flipper bones. The transmission of body heat through the humeral arterial plexus of the flipper and the effect of global warming on species such as Emperor penguins are discussed. INSET: IN BRIEF.
