    • The article discusses the development of hydrogel materials at Harvard University by researchers such as Zhigang Suo, which are designed to distribute stress evenly to avoid cracks and breaks and reduce brittleness. The material is made from water and polymers,including carbohydrate chains from algae and synthetic polymers, and resembles rubber. Applications such as tissue engineering and prosthetic limbs are discussed.
