  • The author discusses science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education in the U.S. and describes an initiative at Arizona State University to encourage creativity and innovation by replacing departments including geology, anthropology, and sociology with transdisciplinary programs. Programs mentioned include The School of Earth and Space Exploration, the School of Human Evolution and Social Change, and the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering. The author argues that student interest in science industries can be increased through education.
