Resumen de New life for ancient DNA.

Kevin L. Campbell, Michael Hofreiter

  • The article discusses how advances in biotechnology and ancient DNA research have led to the reconstruction of woolly mammoth genes and scientists' ability to analyze what proteins these genes encoded for as of August 2012. Topics include how scientific understanding of extinct animals was limited to fossil analysis and how paleophysiology arose through advances in the reassembly of ancient genes. Additional information is presented on the study of cold adaptations in woolly mammoths and the systems of arteries and veins in mammals adapted to cold environments. INSET: Breathing Life into Mammoths.
