The article discusses bacteria engineered to transport nanoparticles and drugs. A study by researchers at John Hopkins University in Maryland, in which nanoparticles composed of gold-coated nickel and tin were attached to nonpathogenic Escherichia coli and a study by researchers at Stanford University in California, in which a gene that makes fireflies glow was attached to the bacterium that cause food poisoning, Listeria monocytogenes, to detect their presence is presented.
