In this article the author presents example of the ways in which mathematics does and does not influence everyday life. He offers equations of personal importance to him, including one calculating lottery winners other than himself, one calculating the number of horses a**es that exceeds the number of horses, and one calculating the likelihood that when using a vending machine that accepts one dollar bills, an individual will only have integers of 20, 10, or five.
