  • The article discusses the creation of an avian influenza (H5N1) virus strain by two separate teams of researchers, one led by Yoshihiro Kawaoka of the University of Madison, Wisconsin and one led by Ron Fouchier of Erasmus Medical Center in the Netherlands. Data from the teams' research papers, which have not been released due to safety and security concerns, are under review by the U.S. National Science Advisory Board for Biosecurity (NSABB).
