Proyección pedagógica de María Luisa Navarro e Isabel Luzuriaga en el exilio republicano

    En este artículo se aborda la trayectoria vital y profesional de dos figuras femeninas republicanas que comparten la experiencia indeleble del exilio (1936), lazos de filiación ―madre e hija― y una común preocupación por la infancia, la educación y las dificultades para el aprendizaje: Mª Luisa Navarro e Isabel Luzuriaga. Mª Luisa formó parte del grupo de mujeres cuyo trabajo revirtió en avances sustantivos para la sociedad española y para la modernización del sistema educativo, haciendo contribuciones en las Misiones Pedagógicas, en la educación de sordomudos, y en favor de los derechos de las mujeres, que no dejó de lado en los exilios que tuvo que afrontar. Isabel llegó de niña a la Argentina luego de haber pasado un tiempo en Inglaterra, país al que regresó en tiempos de su formación profesional y se focalizó en el psicoanálisis infantil, siendo la primera docente de esta asignatura en la Carrera de Psicología en la Universidad de Buenos Aires. Un segundo exilio (1978) la retornó a su España natal, donde permaneció hasta su muerte. El objetivo de este artículo es develar las aportaciones académicas que ambas figuras han realizado desde la Pedagogía y la Psicología atendiendo a variables contextuales, políticas y de exilio. La reposición de los itinerarios de una y otra ha sido posible revisando la obra que produjeron y especialmente a partir de testimonios orales personales, como en el caso de la propia Isabel Luzuriaga, y de allegados que convivieron y trabajaron con ellas.

    The purpose of this article is to show the biography and the career path of two republican women who shared an unforgettable experience in the context of the Spanish exile (1936). Together with their filial ties — they were mother and daughter — M.ª Luisa Navarro and Isabel Luzuriaga shared a common concern for childhood, education and learning difficulties. M.ª Luisa was part of the group of women whose work contributed to significant improvements in Spanish society and to the modernization of the education system. She collaborated with the Misiones Pedagógicas, the education for blind and visually-impaired people, and in support of women’s rights, which she managed to work for in her time spent in exile. Isabel went to Argentina as a child after having lived for several years in the United Kingdom, the country she would return to during her professional career. She focused on child psychoanalysis and she was the first teacher of this subject in Psychological Studies at the University of Buenos Aires. She had a second exile in 1976 in Spain, her native country, where she lived until her death . The objective of this article is to reveal the academic contributions that both figures made from Pedagogy and Psychology, taking into account contextual, political and exile-related variables. Despite both women’s contributions to education and teaching, from a Pedagogical and Psychological point of view and with contextual variables, they never achieved broad recognition either as professionals or as women’s activists. This study shines a spotlight on these two women by examining their work and by resorting to several personal oral testimonies. These include that of Isabel Luzuriaga, and of many people who lived and worked closely with them
