  • A number of opera librettos are adapted from short stories, or from failed novels, that is novels which do not attain polyphony and stay at the level of the novella, whose essence is the confrontation of mimetic doubles. For opera -but not librettos - transcends the material of the novella, much as does a good novel (but differently).
