Jaccottet's poems to Henry Purcell originate in a performance by James Bowman in 1981, more specifically in Deller's voice in "The Fairy Queen", and at first seem a dialogue between music and poetry; however these pieces, which in this join Jaccottet's constant preoccupation with death and the dead, show that music, an essentially non-dialogical form, calls for the poet's language.
