  • The article discusses a study by Frans de Waal of the Yerkes National Primate Research Center, published in the "Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences USA," which indicates that chimpanzees are not selfish and are more likely to engage in prosocial behavior which causes other chimps to gain rewards. De Waal says that the results of his study might also indicate that chimpanzees are influenced by grooming, social support, and other reciprocal exchanges.
