• The article discusses research about the efficiency, innovation, and production of cities that are growing. Reasons for success include higher populations that engage in social interactions, more sustainability of resources and energy, and an increase in wealth and technology. Environmental challenges posed by cities without infrastructure or with high expansion rates are discussed. It is suggested that cities can keep resource consumption low and continue to innovate while growing in population.
