The article discusses research on the genetics of a strain of chikungunya, a virus carried through mosquitoes affecting people in Asia and Africa. It is suggested that one genetic mutation allowed the virus to spread from the African mosquito to the Asian tiger mosquito and become more of a health risk. Information on a study published in "Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences USA" by Scott Weaver is presented.
