  • The article discusses a decision by the American Red Cross to ban sufferers of chronic fatigue syndrome from giving blood. Topics include an overview of the retrovirus xenotropic murine leukemia virus-related virus (XMRV), which has been associated with chronic fatigue syndrome, the lack of scientific evidence linking XMRV with chronic fatigue syndrome, and the development of a process for detecting XMRV in blood samples.
