    • The article discusses at which point grief and mourning become pathological. According to the author, individuals who suffer deep grief over the loss of a loved one often question their own existence or their sanity. She wonders when disturbing thoughts and emotions cross the line from being normal to being pathological, discusses two proposed changes in the fifth edition of "Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5)" that attempt to answer questions regarding pathological grief, such as the addition of the mental illness Complicated Grief Disorder, and the controversy surrounding one of the two proposals that would allow medical treatment for depression in the first few weeks following a death.
