The article reports the use of smartphones by physicians to diagnose diseases, check blood cell counts, and identify pathogens in drinking water. An overview of results of a study published in a 2011 issue of "Science Translational Medicine" investigating the use of cell phones, coupled with a lunch box-size machine, to diagnose cancer from tiny tissue samples is presented.
