  • Resumen
    • The article discusses the necessity of moving beyond the conventional method of mammograms for breast cancer screening. The author argues that medical technology has not been able to meet the challenge of detecting breast tumors before they become deadly. Topics include an overview of the use of mammography in early detection of breast cancer, the shortcomings of mammography, such as the high rate of false positives that lead to unnecessary biopsies, and the controversy and confusion surrounding mammography's shortcomings. Statistics on the percentage of U.S. women who are foregoing screening mammograms and alternative options to mammography, such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and ultrasound, are presented.
