In this article the authors discuss aspects of the consequences of fear and the need for U.S. states to implement stricter laws requiring immunization for preventable diseases. Topics include a discussion on the fear that vaccinations cause autism and other diseases, which is preventing parents from immunizing their children against contagious diseases, such as whooping cough, pertussis, and measles, and the authors' argument that refusal to immunize schoolchildren is a public health threat.
