The article discusses a report in a 2010 issue of "Current Anthropology," by scientists at the ANO Laboratory of Pre-history in Saint Petersburg, Russia, who propose that catastrophic eruptions in northern Eurasia led to the extinction of Neanderthals. An overview of how the extinction of Neanderthals benefited modern humans, such as an uninhibited migration to northern Eurasia is presented.
