In this article the author discusses aspects of a national electricity grid in the U.S. colloquially referred to as a smart grid. The author presents a brief overview of what a smart grid is and what it will enable the U.S. to do, such as integrate alternative energy sources. She suggests why the way in which the idea, as envisaged by U.S President Barack Obama, is dangerous, noting a lack of U.S. cybersecurity. She discusses the necessity of building security into the smart grid system.
