    Richard Ford, importante hispanista del siglo XIX, recorrió España hacia 1830-33, realizando cientos de dibujos que en su mayor parte no se han publicado hasta 2014.

    A su breve paso por Córdoba, parada obligada para muchos viajeros de la época por su esplendoroso pasado islámico, Ford dibujó la fachada de la ciudad hacia el Guadalquivir, y tres vistas urbanas inéditas aquí presentadas. Se trata de dibujos o bocetos realizados para conocer y registrar el paisaje, la ciudad o sus arquitecturas, cuando aún no existía la fotografía, con puntos de vista y datos de considerable interés documental. A ellos se suma otro dibujo del interior de la Mezquita atribuido a su esposa Harriet, seguramente copiado de su amigo y famoso pintor, J. F. Lewis. Este interesante conjunto de vistas se analiza considerando los propios textos de Ford sobre Córdoba y tomando como referencia otras imágenes urbanas de la época.

    Richard Ford -renowned Hispanist from the 19th century- travelled across Spain during the years 1830 and 1833, producing hundred of sketches that remained unpublished until 2014. During a short stay in Cordoba, a city famous among travelers due to its magnificent Islamic heritage, Ford drew the city’s façade towards the Guadalquivir River, besides another three unpublished urban sketches also presented here. These sketches or drawings were made to document landscapes, cities, or architectural landmarks in times where photography did not exist, and they added interesting points of view of remarkable historical interest. Apart from these drawings, there is another illustration of the interior of the Mosque probably made by Ford’s wife Harriet, and based on another drawing by their friend and famous painter J. F.

    Lewis. This compilation of views is analyzed following Ford’s writings upon Cordoba, and taking as a reference other urban landscapes of the period.
