  • Resumen
    • Three good reasons are quoted for making use of the mother tongue in education: i) the preservation of cultural traditions; ii) the development of creative thought; iii) links between school and home. Against the use of the mother tongue, one of the arguments most often quoted is that of the cost of materials. The cost can, however, be minimized and problems such as the lack of an orthography bypassed, if language‐neutral materials are prepared, developing in the first place graphic and symbolic skills other than writing.
