Fadrines de muntanya: Uns primers apunts sobre el procés de no casar-se

    Nàixer en l’època de les nostres iaies implicava un future prefixat: casar-se i tindre fills. Les fadrines no seguien eixa norma i, per això, sembla que encarnaven un trencament amb la pauta social imposada a les dones. En el present article, a partir de relats de vida de dones fadrines nascudes en la primera mitat del segle XX, hem construït perfils sobre les experiències d’esta condició biogràfica. La investigació, encara en procés, obri el mapa de coneixements sobre la societat tradicional valenciana, enriquint-lo amb trajectòries vitals de subjectes sovint invisibilitzats.

    Women born in the first half of the 20th century were meant to have socially predetermined life expectations: to get married and raise a family. Single women did not follow that rule and, therefore, represented a certain “breakdown” of social standards. This article gives account of several profiles of women with this biographical condition by means of oral life stories. The current research, still in progress, attempts to broaden the scope on the body of knowledge available so far with respect to traditional Valencian society. Life stories of often-silenced individuals, such as single women, help to provide a deeper insight into the anthropological background of this western Mediterranean society.
