  • Humans have never encountered a more intelligent life form, but this will change if they create machines that greatly surpass their cognitive abilities. Then their fate will depend on the will of such a "superintelligence," much as the fate of gorillas today depends more on what they do than on gorillas themselves. They therefore have reason to be curious about what these superintelligences will want. Here, Bostrom says one day humans will create artificial intelligence far superior to them and preparing for them is the greatest challenge.
