    La iconografía de la Divina Pastora surge a principios del siglo XVIII en Sevilla y de aquí se difunde a todos los rincones del orbe cristiano, especialmente en América Latina, en los virreinatos de Nueva España (México) y Nueva Granada (Colombia). En Sevilla, donde trabajan una serie de pintores todavía influidos por la estética de Murillo se realizarán pinturas de gran calidad y con estos rasgos iconográfícos durante todo el siglo XVIII.

    The iconography of the Virgin as Divina Pastora (Divine shepherdess) emerged in early eighteenth-century Seville and dispersed to all corners of the Christian world, especially in Latin America in the viceroyalties of New Spain (Mexico) and New Granada (Colombia). In Seville, a series of painters still influenced by the aesthetics of Murillo produced paintings of great quality with these iconographic traits throughout the 18th century.
