In this paper I discuss research I am carrying out in six bilingual schools in Friesland. In the Introduction I present general information about changes in the linguistic map of Friesland, the very beginning of bilingual education in Friesland and the present state of this type of schooling. In the first section data are presented about the sample, a definition of bilingual education, the linguistic map of the schools involved in the project and the pedagogical and sociolinguistic climate of these schools. In the second section I discuss some critical remarks I formulated for the teams of the various schools and their reactions to these remarks. I conclude with some remarks about methodological aspects of this type of research and a request for critical comments from benevolent researchers.
