Resumen de Is an interactive integration of the European peoples possible?: An example of Italian youth in the West German Republic

Agostino Portera

  • The question will be discussed as to whether, because of the opening of European borders in 1992 and the approach of different peoples, the opportunity of creating a multicultural society (the so‐called ‘melting pot’ which has failed in the United States) can now be achieved in Europe.

Looking at the psycho‐social situation of the Italian youth in Germany, the author shows, with the help of a qualitative empirical examination, the necessity of using this coming historical event to create an even growth and integration of the various peoples. Only in this way can future tensions and conflicts be avoided and each person then be given the opportunity to realise and express his or her personal identity as an integrated member of a new European society.
