  • The article discusses research on social isolation and the use of analgesics to treat emotional pain associated with social rejection. The role of the brain's anterior cingulate cortex in reacting to emotional feelings of pain is noted. A clinical study by social psychologist C. Nathan DeWall involving treatment of emotional pain using acetaminophen or the commercial product Tylenol is noted.
