  • The author discusses health disparities in the U.S., their complexity, and challenges to reforming health care inequities in the U.S. A 2008 summit of the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) on eliminating health disparities is noted. In this call to action, the author discusses society's moral obligation to eliminate health disparities, the various U.S. populations that are underrepresented in U.S. health care, and the scientist's role in advancing medical policy.
