  • Resumen
    • The article profiles Julia Lathrop, the first ever woman to head a U.S. government agency and the former head of the Children's Bureau, which is an agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. A discussion of Lathrop's efforts to increase efforts to immunize children and to improve children's health and welfare and infant and maternal health care services across the globe, is presented. Lathrop's efforts to have the Sheppard-Towner Act passed, which provides state funding to help reduce infant and maternal mortality, are examined.
