Resumen de Schistosomiasis Control and Snail Elimination in China.

  • The article presents an overview of schistosomiasis, which is a chronic, sometimes fatal disease with serious symptoms including fever, pain, and enlarged liver which is caused by the helminth parasite Schistosoma. A discussion of the prevalence of schistosomiasis in China, and of guidelines on schistosomiasis prevention which have been developed by the Chinese Ministry of Health, is presented. Initiatives which have been developed to eliminate the snail which causes schistosomiasis in China are discussed.
