The article profiles German midwife Justina Siegemund. Published in 1960, Siegemund's book "Court Midwife" was the first German medical text written by a woman. She decided to study and practice midwifery in 1959 after suffering from the care of midwives who assumed she was pregnant. In 1701 she was appointed Court Midwife of Berlin, Germany by Elector of Brandenburg Frederick William.
