In this article the author reflects on the preventing lethal injury and suicide among active members of the U.S. military and among U.S. military veterans. He suggests that the U.S. military, the U.S. medical community and the U.S. Veterans Health Administration need to help remove and store firearms from the homes of individuals who are at high risk of suicide. He argues that research needs to be conducted on how to best communicate firearm safety messages to veterans and military members.
