  • Resumen
    • This paper is a study of English loan‐words in Dholuo. The paper examines the process of word integration into the recipient language at two linguistic levels: grammatical and phonological. At the grmmatical level the loanwords are considered under nine Dholuo noun classes, each of which exhibits different morphophonemic and morphosyntactic rules that determine the final shape of the borrowed word. At the phonological level, the paper discusses the conditioning the English loans are subjected to as a result of the phonetic asymmetry between Dholuo and English both at segmental and suprasegmental levels.
