  Aún siendo una cualidad que emerge prepotentemente de las fuentes, el humor es la característica hasta hoy menos estudiada de Francisco de Asís, y ello a pesar de algunas de sus expresiones -como la alegría y la dimensión juglaresca- están entre aquellas que identifican hoy al Poverello. Este estudio apunta por tanto a desvelar el humor de Francisco a través de todas las expresiones con las cuales se manifiesta: las travesuras y las agudezas de espíritu testimoniadas por las fuentes, pero también de la dimensión teatral de su modo de predicar y de vivir, el sentido de la proporción (alcanzado gracias al "desprendimiento de sí", que es el origen de la humildad), la corporeidad, el radical vuelco de los valores que está en la base de la noverdad franciscana, que si bien en los inicios de su conversión lo lleva a ser tildado como loco, en la cima de su fama lo induce a reivindicar aquella misma "locura" para rechazar la normalización del Orden.

  Although a sense of humour powerfully emerges from the sources as characteristic of Francis of Assisi, to date this is his least researched quality. This has been so although some of its expressions -such as joy and jesting- are among those that today best represent the Poor Man of Assisi. This study aims to "uncover" Francis's sense of humour, by means of all of its the expressions: the jokes and witticisms, to which the sources bear witness, but also the theatrical dimension of his way of preaching and of livins, his sense of proportion (achieved thanks to that "detachment from self" that is also at the origin of humility), bodiliness, the radical reversal of values that is at the base of the newness of Francis. In the beginning of his conversion, this turning of values upside-down makes Francis to be seen as a "fool", yet at the height of his fame, it leads him to claim that "folly" in order to refuse the "normalization" of the order.
