  • In this article the author discusses the search for extraterrestrial beings or intelligence somewhere in the universe. The article is part of a special section of the magazine in which factors of change concerning life on Earth are examined. A number of issues are explored including the activities of the search for extraterrestrial intelligence (SETI) under the direction of Frank Drake, the examination of approximately 800 stars representing a fraction of the Milky Way, and what will happen if intelligent life is discovered in the universe.
