  • The article examines issues surrounding Alzheimer's disease, the leading cause of dementia in older adults. The incidence of Alzheimer's disease has increased significantly as the population ages, but no effective treatment has been developed to combat the ailment. New drugs have failed because they were applied too late in the onset of the disease. The article reports on new medical science techniques to monitor the incidence of Alzheimer's disease before symptoms become apparent and may permit the testing of drugs at a stage where they will be more effective.
