The article discusses a report published in the February 12, 2010 issue of “Science” which indicates that rapid rates of ice melting and ice formation caused several sea level changes in the Mediterranean region. The team examined rock formations called speleothems using radioactive uranium and thorium decay models to date the rock layers in various caves in Mallorca, Spain. A brief overview of speleothems, which are more precise measures of historic sea levels, is presented.
