  • The article discusses the use of unmanned aircraft, called drones, in polar expeditions. According to the author, the use of unmanned aircraft, which are commonly used in the military, is gaining interest among scientists for use in polar science because they are less expensive and safer to operate than traditional airplanes. Topics include various advantages to unmanned vehicles, such as customizing their instrumentation and map ice sheets at greater resolutions.
