The article reports on research into the extinction of megafauna such as mammoths and saber-toothed tigers in North America, which took place sometime between 13,000 and 8000 B.C. The question of of whether they were hunted to extinction by stone-age people with Clovis points is addressed. An alternative hypothesis involving climate change is discussed, and three studies attempting to clarify the dating of the events are described.
