The paper, with a theoretical focus, argues that evidence of cross-linguistic influences on language use can and ought to be enlisted in L2 attrition research to clean up spontaneous speech n that L2 attrition researchers have little control over the content of whatever spontaneous speech data they may want to use in their research, there is the need for them to be able to sort so ensure that their conclusions about attrition are valid.
